This game teaches so many great skills, including the basics of cards, sequencing, strategizing, and decision-making. The Spruce / Sarah Vanbuskirk Educational Value: Card-playing primer This tends to catch his opponents off guard, meaning he can easily be underestimated-to our detriment. He’ll often choose spots that don’t make any logical sense (to me). For my fourth-grader, Noah, the game is more straightforward, but unlike the others, he always focuses on the outside of the board, which creates more space and creativity in the play of the game.įor younger kids: Walter, 7, seeks to cluster his tokens, which I do as well. I have to be super careful not to let him catch wind of a sequence in the works or it will quickly be obliterated. At one point, she beat me 11 games in a row.įor tweens: When my hyper-competitive tween, Hank, plays, he’s always on the attack. She often seems to be playing haphazardly, making me sure I’m about to win until she sweeps in with a surprise sequence. My high schooler, Violet, employs all kinds of rituals, such as stacking her spare tokens just so, using a specific one each turn, and intentionally ordering her moves throughout the board. He is a master of the bait and switch and usually sees my sequences before I do. This game offers an alluring combination of luck, variables, stealth, and strategy that had my kids and me hooked.įor teens: With Charlie, my math-focused teen, strategy and defense take center stage. To me, the best is when you scan and rescan the board only to find you have an almost completed sequence secretly lurking, which you can convert for the win. I’m always on the defensive and never play a fourth token until I have the fifth one at the ready. I try to keep to the center of the board, which I think my kids have figured out. After playing with five different kids in short succession, I’ve found that it feels like a unique game each time. It’s simple enough for young ones to understand and still enjoyably challenging for tweens, teens, and adults.įor adults: I loved this game back when I first started playing it. The tag line on the box is exactly right: “It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s challenging, it’s Sequence!” One reason it is so appealing is that it’s the perfect game for families with multiple kids (mine span eight years). This game offers an alluring combination of luck, variables, stealth, and strategy that had my kids and me hooked. The Spruce / Sarah Vanbuskirk Entertainment Value: We were hooked That player then draws a card to add to his or her hand. During a turn, each person plays a card from his or her hand, placing it in the discard pile and marking one of the corresponding card faces on the board with the color-coded token. The gist is that the player or team who gets two “sequences” of five tokens each down on the board first, wins. I appreciate that the concept of Sequence is simple-all you really need to do is make a match-and can help acclimate kids to playing traditional card games. I personally think Sequence is more fun with a single opponent or two, but I’ve found that team play is a good way to incorporate younger players. This game can accommodate two or three single or team players up to 12 total. Red tokens should only be used when there is a third player, which is why there are fewer. Meanwhile, the playing pieces are color-coded tokens: 50 blue, 50 green, and 35 red. The sequence deck contains 104 cards, including eight Jacks: four with two eyes and four with one eye (more on that later). Read on to see if Sequence is still a royal flush. I was thrilled to rediscover this old favorite with a new crop of kids. (Having three more babies might have something to do with that.) Now that my younger ones are all old enough for cards and other family games, I’m testing out board games to bring into our game night rotation. Unfortunately, after lots of love, our board ripped, cards and pieces were lost, and we forgot all about it. So, when I came across the Jax Sequence game (essentially a board game melded with cards) several years back, I was more than excited to give it a try.īack then, my two older kids and I were big fans and played the game regularly. It’s fair to say that cards are in my blood, and as long as a deck of cards is involved, I’m in. My childhood was defined, more than anything else, by playing cards, often into the wee hours of the night at a table that always had room for one more, with my Grandma Ethel at the helm. Keep reading for our full product review. We purchased the Jax Sequence Game so our reviewer could put it to the test. The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board.

Once it’s installed, you’ll be prompted to grant permission for it to access location services (so it can find your brush) and register an account. To get the most out of the iO Series 9, however, you’ll need to download the Oral-B mobile app (available for Android and iOS). The charging base is magnetic, but it can be easy to knock the brush off if you're not careful (Image credit: Future) We also noticed a subjective difference our teeth felt smoother after using the iO Series 9. Disclosing tablets revealed that we did indeed brush more effectively with the iO Series 9 than our regular oscillating toothbrush, when brushing for the same period of time. In use, the Oral-B iO Series 9 is much quieter than an oscillating brush, and glides smoothly from one tooth to the next. Your aim is to keep the light illuminated in your chosen color as much as possible, without straying into red (too much pressure) or blue (not enough). However, this is much more useful than the standard red light to indicate that you’re pressing too hard as well as detecting excessive pressure, it also detects whether you’re not pressing hard enough. Like most higher-end electric toothbrushes, the Oral-B iO Series 9 has a pressure sensor. This isn’t just a nice touch of personalization it also has a practical use. When you set up your toothbrush, you’ll be prompted to choose a color for its light. One of the Oral-B iO Series 9's best features is its color display, below the power button (Image credit: Future) There are seven modes to choose from, and the simple menu makes it easy to pick an appropriate one each time you’re ready to start brushing. Remove it from the charger to wake it, then use the lower button to select a mode and press the power button to start. While some toothbrushes over-complicate matters, the iO Series 9 is refreshingly simple, with just two buttons on the brush itself. One of the iO Series 9’s best features is its color LCD display, which makes it easy to choose your preferred setting, and receive feedback after you finish brushing. This holds the brush handle, and one head. You also get a rechargeable carry case, which keeps the brush powered up while you’re away from home. It’s supplied with a magnetic charger that connects to a standard shaving socket, one brush head, and a case to hold spares. The Oral-B iO Series 9 is a modern-looking electric toothbrush available in three colors: black, white, and rose quartz. The iO Series 9 isn’t compatible with heads from older Oral-B toothbrushes. You can occasionally find them for a discount on Amazon, so it’s wise to stock up if you do. Replacement brush heads cost around $35 / £30 / AU$35 for a set of two, which is undeniably steep. That makes it easily one of the most expensive electric toothbrushes around, but it can now be found much more cheaply if you shop around. The Oral-B iO Series 9 was released in 2020, and was originally priced at $300 / £500 / AU$400. If you can stomach the cost, it’s easily one of the best electric toothbrushes you can buy. However, it’s come down a lot since its launch last year, and you may be able to pick it up for even less during deal events. The chief downside is the iO Series 9’s price it’s one of the most expensive electric toothbrushes around. Combined with safe and permanent storage, direct air capture has the potential to get the carbon cycle back in balance,” said Børre Jacobsen, the managing director of Northern Lights, in a statement. We are enthusiastic about this collaboration with Climeworks. “There is growing awareness of the need to build capacity to remove CO 2 from the atmosphere to achieve net zero by 2050. The business is one of the lynchpins in the Norwegian government’s efforts to capture and store carbon emissions safely underground under a plan called The Longship Project. Northern Lights was incorporated in March as a joint venture between Equinor, Shell and Total to provide processing, transportation and underground sequestration services for captured carbon dioxide emissions. It would mean the realization of a full-chain carbon dioxide removal service that the two companies called a necessary component of the efforts to reverse global climate change. The deal could pave the way for a new business that would offer carbon capture and sequestration services to commercial enterprises around the world, if the joint venture between Climeworks and the newly formed Northern Lights company is successful. The Swiss-based, venture capital-backed, direct air capture technology developer Climeworks is partnering with a joint venture between the government of Norway and massive European energy companies to map the pathway for a business that could provide not only the direct capture of carbon dioxide emissions from air, but the underground sequestration and storage of those emissions. The first file you make will be the controller for your module's admin interface page. We will go through these files one by one. Usually the files have the same name, except the view file has a different suffix (.twig). Most will require a file in each of the model and language folders. You will find four folders within the admin/ folder:Īll modules will require at least a single file in each of the view and controller folders. As the module developer, you will need to create the admin page where the module may be edited and the configuration options added or adjusted.Īll admin files are located in the admin/ folder. When a store owner uses your module, they will want to edit the module's configuration options in the admin in order to decide which layouts to display the module on, whether it is enabled or disabled, and any module specific options. What will go in those files is determined by what your module is trying to accomplish, but the basic functionality is detailed in the sections below. A good way to get started with your module is to duplicate the folder structure and create the files above. The image above displays a skeleton of the directory structure that your module should follow. Likewise, the way the module is displayed and how it works in the front end of the store will be handled by the files in the catalog folder. Therefore, the files in the admin folder will handle any changes to its settings, the way the module is displayed in the administration, install/uninstalling the module, etc. Users of your module will interact and configure its settings in the administration side of the store. The contents of each folder will follow the MVC-L framework respectively, with the difference that the admin will deal solely with backend functionality, and the catalog with frontend functionality. The basic file structure for your module will be divided into two sections, the admin and the catalog folders. This module contains the directory structure, files, and instructions on how to understand and build your own modules. The easiest way to create a module is to download the DIY Module Builder skeleton from HostJars. This documentation guide will describe how you use each of the MVC-L components to create the admin and frontend parts of your module. Just as the rest of OpenCart, modules follow the MVCL design pattern. Writing OpenCart modules can be a very good way to learn how the fundamentals of OpenCart actually work. The main combat in the first Ori game I personally felt was good, but could have been a little better. You’re also able to cling to glowing blue forest moss as you hand-over-hand climb over gaps and other obstacles á la Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. There’s still the light, floaty feeling while traversing through platforming sections located in the woods of Niwen, but it feels as if it’s been improved just enough to not be constantly over-shooting your landing. The game controls feel just as you remember them, but I felt the jump weight had been improved a little bit. Will of the Wisps has simplified this element by simply using an autosave feature, meaning when you aren’t punished quite as severely when you don’t time a jump perfectly and land on a thicket of thorn bushes, resulting in a instant death. Gone are the soul links that you have have to remember and place every couple minutes out of fear of having to re-do significant chunks of gameplay due to the games moderately steep gameplay difficulty. The team at Moon Studios has done a great job in fine tuning and adjusting gameplay mechanics and controls in Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Here are some of my initial impressions of Ori and the Will of the Wisps… The second time around… Ori and the Will of the Wisps was released this past Wednesday as was available immediately for Xbox Game Pass users, having recently begun using Game Pass Ulitmate on my Xbox One X, I was pretty excited to give the game a try. The issues I faced with the original game made the impending release of Moon Studio’s sequel – Ori and the Will of the Wisps even more intriguing many brand new IPs will get even better with the next game in the series as developers have had a longer time to evaluate and adjust game mechanics. For everything that was great about the game, I wasn’t crazy about the attacks that felt woefully underpowered and the feather-light movements in the game made jumping with any kind of precision greatly difficult(*this may have been a combination of a personal preference of a little more hefty jump weight and the fact I was playing primarily in handheld mode on my Switch…those short little joysticks!). I recently mentioned the game in a post listing some of my favorite metroidvania titles, the game featured some well designed levels, along with wonderful visuals, celestial score, and prologue that packs an emotional punch rivaling that of a Pixar movie. I knew of the game, but not so much what type of game it was – a metroidvania-type adventure game with some of the most beautiful visuals and soundtrack I’ve experienced in a game. A couple months ago while browsing the Switch eShop, I decided to finally download Ori and the Blind Forest and try it out after hearing others say how much they love the game. need to commit and push within the submodule (to the upstream module), and. This is why, when you do modify a submodule from within the main project, you: You cannot modify the contents of the submodule from within the main projectġ00% correct: you cannot modify a submodule, only refer to one of its commits. These together triangulate a specific revision of a specific repository which is checked out into a specific location in your project. Git submodules are implemented using two moving parts: The page " Understanding Submodules" can help How would I advance the submodule referenced commit from say (tagged) 1.0 to 1.1 (even though the head of the original repo is already at 2.0) If you forget to publish the submodule change, others won't be able to clone the repository. WARNING (from Git Submodule Tutorial): Always publish (push) the submodule change before publishing (push) the change to the superproject that references it. You can create a branch and push modifications. If you create a new branch, add a submodule there, and then switch back to a branch without that submodule, you still have the submodule directory as an untracked directory:Ĭan I create branches/modifications and use push/pull just like I would in regular repos, or are there things to be cautious about? Switching branches with submodules in them can also be tricky. When you do the submodule update a second time, it will still revert your work, but at least you have a pointer to get back to. To avoid this issue, create a branch when you work in a submodule directory with git checkout -b work or something equivalent. The rest of this answer details the classic submodule feature (reference to a fixed commit, which is the all point behind the notion of a submodule). Next time you will clone that parent repo, it will populate the submodules to reflect those new SHA1 references. In both cases, that will change the submodules references (the gitlink, a special entry in the parent repo index), and you will need to add, commit and push said references from the main repo. MindTooth's answer illustrate a manual update (without local configuration): git submodule -q foreach git pull -q origin master See " git submodule update -remote vs git pull". Technically you won’t lose the work, but you won’t have a branch pointing to it, so it will be somewhat difficult to retrieve.Īs mentioned in " git submodule tracking latest", a submodule now (git1.8.2) can track a branch. If you do an initial submodule update, commit in that submodule directory without creating a branch to work in, and then run git submodule update again from the superproject without committing in the meantime, Git will overwrite your changes without telling you. The issue is that you generally don’t want to work in a detached head environment, because it’s easy to lose changes. This is called having a detached head - it means the HEAD file points directly to a commit, not to a symbolic reference. When you run git submodule update, it checks out the specific version of the project, but not within a branch. This GitPro page does summarize the consequence of a git submodule update nicely Returning subscribers may also take advantage of this offer. If you purchase either of these watches, you’ll get a six-month subscription to Fitbit Premium as well, assuming you aren’t a current subscriber, of course. As with previous Fitbit watches, iOS support is also present with integration provided by the Fitbit app. You’ll find hefty Android integration here, including quick replies to messages and support for Google Assistant, Maps, and the revamped Google Wallet coming soon. Of course, just because they aren’t running WatchOS or Wear OS doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of being powerful smartwatches in themselves. Sure, you’ll get better battery life from some fitness trackers, but when a single charge lasts almost a week, there’s little to complain about. You may argue it is because they have less to do than full-fledged smartwatches from the likes of Apple and Samsung, but if they do what you want a smartwatch for superlatively well (in this case, tracking health and fitness), then what’s the issue? Either way, you won’t find yourself fiddling around for a charger on a daily basis with these. Both the Versa 4 and the Sense 2 have six+ days of battery life. That’s one area that Fitbit has done its best to conquer. One area where smartwatches consistently flounder compared to regular old watches is battery life. Winner: Fitbit Sense 2 Battery life Fitbit Suffice it to say, the Sense 2 wins here by virtue of having more it can do. Fitbit’s Stress Management score hopes to be useful in that way, but you won’t have access to it on the Versa 4. While counterintuitive, it’s not always a good idea to keep track of how much you’re stressed, but it does have its uses in quantifying stress levels over a period of time if used appropriately. There’s also an EDA (electrodermal activity) monitor, which uses your skin temperature to track your stress levels. A lot of digital ink has been spilled on the usefulness of having an ECG on your wrist, so we’ll narrow it down with this line: It’s not a substitute for an actual doctor if you have reason to be concerned about your heart, but it is better than nothing. It’ll keep track of your heart and help you figure out if you’re in danger of atrial fibrillation, for one. The Sense 2, unlike the Versa 4, comes with support for an ECG (electrocardiogram) app. That said, it’s the differences that move the needle. It’s safe to say that both track a lot of different exercises and activities, too. But that’s nothing a cursory glass at the spec sheet wouldn’t tell you, and there are more similarities than differences here. They both count steps, have GPS and 24/7 heart-rate tracking, and they’re even good for swimmers. Winner: Tie Fitness and health-tracking featuresĪs with the previous generation of these, there’s a lot of overlap between the two watches when it comes to health tracking. Their more substantial features provide a stronger base for differentiation, and we’ll dive into those shortly. So, if you’re picking one of these wearables based on looks, you’ll find it’s a toss-up. The Sense 2, on the other hand, has Shadow Gray paired with Graphite Aluminium, Lunar White with Platinum Aluminium, and Blue Mist with a Soft Gold Aluminium casing.īoth look pretty good, but they’re very similar. The Versa 4 has black and blue paired with Graphite and Platinum Aluminum casings, respectively, while Pink Sand and Beet Juice colorways are both paired with Copper Rose Aluminium. There are two sizes and a selection of colors. They’re not as pretty as Apple and Samsung’s offerings, but they’re cheaper, so it’s understandable. We also have muzzle energy graphs for all the calibers/ammunition tested at BBTI. Fortunately, there are a number of websites out there which will calculate muzzle energy for you – you just plug in the relevant numbers and out comes the result. Which is just mathematic notation for “Energy equals one-half the mass of an object times the square of its velocity.”ĭoing the actual calculations can be a bit of a pain, since you have to convert everything into consistent units, but the formula is there on the Wikipedia page (and can be found elsewhere) if you want to give it a go. You can calculate kinetic energy using the classic formula: The heavier the bullet and the faster it moves, the higher its muzzle energy and the more damage it will do.įor those who are trying to remember your high school physics, kinetic energy is the energy (or power) of something moving. It is often used as a rough indication of the destructive potential of a given firearm or load. Muzzle energy is the kinetic energy of a bullet as it is expelled from the muzzle of a firearm. Calculating Muzzle Energyįirst off, what is ‘muzzle energy’? Wikipedia has a pretty good description and discussion of it. 32 ACP or have someone throw a baseball at you? Seems like a silly question, doesn’t it? But did you know that the ‘muzzle energy’ of the two is about the same? Seriously, it is and that’s just one reason why trying to use muzzle energy as a measurement of handgun effectiveness is problematic.
